The Origin of Devi Mari Amman

Sri Samayapuram Mariamman Temple, Samayapuram, Trichy

Devi Mariamman is a manifestation of Devi Shakthi widely worshipped in South India, as the Curer of all diseases, and the Giver of rain.

The Goddess has enormous powers of curing illnesses. Hence, it is a ritual to buy small metallic replicas, made with silver or steel, of various body parts that need to be cured; and these are deposited in the donation box inside the Temple.

The Temple as it stands today was built by the Vijayanagar King Vijayaraya Chakkaravarthi in the early 18th century.

In very few temples, you can see the Presiding Deity from the entrance of the Temple.

At Samayapuram, Devi Mariamman is visible from the Main Entrance of the Temple. And it appears as if the Divine Mother is waiting to shower Her Blessings on you.

Location : 15 Kms from Cauvery Bridge on Trichy Chennai Trunk Road
