Sri Jambukeshwarar Akilandeswari Temple, Thiruvanaikaval

Thiruvanaikaval is one of the major Shiva temples in TamilNadu (Panchabhoota Sthalams) representing one of the Five Great Elements – Water.

The other four temples are Ekambaranathar Temple, Kancheepuram (Land), Thiruvannamalai (Fire), Tiruvanaikkaval (Water), Chidambaram (Sky), Kalahasthi, Andhra Pradesh (Air)

The temple was built by  Raja Kochenga Chola, around 1,800 years ago.

The main deity, Sri Jambukeswara, sits under a Jambu tree over a small stream that engulfs the deity during the rainy season.

Devi Akilandeswari is one of the most famed forms of Devi Parvati along with Devi Meenakshi and Devi Kamakshi

The Shrine of Devi Akilandeshwari and the Shrine of Prasanna Vinayaka are in the shape of the pranava manthra "Om". It is believed that people who go round the sannathy (which is in the shape of "Om") 12 times and for 48 days will get the blessings of Devi Akilandeshwari and have a good, healthy and wealthy life.
