Runa Vimochana Narasimha Stotra

Debt Removing Prayer to Lord Narasimha

Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Ashtothram

Sri Namagiri Laxmi Narasimha Swamy Temple, Namakkal

Lord Narasimha is the fourth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The Lord took this Form to protect His most ardent devotee Prahalad from his evil father, Hiranyakasipu.

Built around 1,300 years back, in the 8th century AD, by King Mahendravarma Pallava, the rock cut temple at Namakkal is dedicated to Lord Narasimha and his consort Devi Namagiri Laxmi.

According to Hindu mythology, this rock grew out of the Saligramam that Lord Hanuman had brought back, when he went to the Himalayas to return the Sanjeevani Hill to its original place.

Lord Hanuman wanted to perform Santhyavanthanam at sun rise. So he placed Saligramam near the Kamalalayam Tank and performed Santhyavanthanam. When He tried to lift the Saligramam, He could not move it. Praying to the Lord, He heard a voice which asked Him to complete His duties to the Lord in Rama Avataram, and then return to this place. Hence Lord Haunuman is seen opposite the main entrance of the Temple on the western side of the rock, worshipping the Lord.

Lord Narashimha is seen in the sitting position after killing Hiranya. The two sons of Lord Brahma - Sanakan and Sanathanan are by His side telling about the world happenings. Lord Surya and Lord Chandra are seen holding Samaram and pacifying the Lord’s anger. Lord Shiva and Lord Brahma are seen praying to the Lord and also pacifying Him. Hence Namakkal is also referred to called one of the ‘Thirumurthi Thalams’.

Devi Namagiri Laxmi is present in a seperate Shrine in the Temple.

Location : 1 Km from Bus Terminus, opposite to Namakkal Anjaneyar Temple
